A carbon steel flat face flange is shortly referred to as FF. This weld neck flat face flange is a component which has been
machined to be flat and, therefore does not have a ridge like structure as seen in either a raised face or ring type joint flange.
The flat surface of the socket weld flat face flange permits the gasket to have full contact with the entire surface of the mating material. The design of the flat face has been created in such a manner for the sole purpose of eliminating the bending movement applied on the flange when the bolts have been torqued. When using either a cast iron or a fiberglass material flanges, this bending movement that occurs on it can easily break the flange.
