Lap Joint Flange Facilitates Easy Assembly and Maintenance in Low-Pressure Piping Systems

A lap joint flange is a two-component piping fitting consisting of a stub end and a backing flange, designed for applications requiring frequent disassembly or alignment adjustments. Unlike weld neck flanges, it does not require welding to the pipe, making it ideal for low-pressure, non-critical services in chemical processing, food production, and HVAC systems.

The stub end is welded to the pipe, while the loose backing flange slides over it and bolts to the mating flange. This configuration allows rotation for bolt-hole alignment and simplifies replacement of gaskets or corroded stub ends without cutting the pipeline. Lap joint flanges are typically made from carbon steel, stainless steel, or alloy materials compatible with system media.

Cost-effective and versatile, they reduce installation time and labor expenses. Though not suitable for high-pressure or high-temperature scenarios, their flexibility shines in systems using exotic or expensive piping materials where welding could compromise integrity. For maintenance-intensive operations, the lap joint flange offers practicality without sacrificing reliability.
